Ten months after its initial release on the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Unite is still going strong with its updates. Following its release on android and IOS devices, the game’s player base skyrocketed, reaching a whopping 50 million downloads in its first month. When the game was released, 20 Pokémons were included in the roster; now there are 35 playable Pokémons that you can use, all can be played differently depending on their role. In this article, we will look at 3 of the most recent addiction in the Pokémon Unite roster.

Duraludon

SOURCE: Pokémon Unite

Released on March 14, this Pokémon from the 8th generation easily became a crowd favorite. Duraludon possesses the most serious burst damage in the game with its Dragon Pulse skill. If you got marked and hit by this Pokémon 3-4 times, then Dragon Pulse connected, the damage would be fatal. Duraludon’s abilities include Heavy Metal (passive), Laser Focus, or Metal Claws for the early game; Flash Cannon or Dragon Pulse mid-game; and Dragon Tail or Stealth Rock for the late game. Duraludon’s unite ability is called Revolving Ruin. Given Duraludon’s great damage, he is best to play the attacker role on the bottom side of the map. This Pokémon excels with its high offensive skills; it has great damage that could help you win team fights; however, Duraludon is bad at disengaging, as it is one of the slowest Pokémon in the game. Since most of its skills are damage base, Duraludon would have a bad time when get ganked on.

Azumarill

SOURCE: Pokémon Unite

Three weeks after Duraludon’s release, another Pokémon entered the scene; on April 7, Azumarill joined the Pokémon Unite roster. This water Pokémon joined the all-rounders; these are the Pokémon that are versatile on the battlefield and can be either played offensively or defensively. Azumarill is a Pokémon that heavily relies on its ability to get a critical hit. While Azumarill is strong in any 1v1 situation, it is best to play it in the jungle, where it can focus on leveling up. Azumarill’s abilities include Huge Power (passive); in the early game, Marill can learn Tackle or Bubble; when it evolves into Azumarill in the mid-game, it can learn Whirlpool and Aqua Tail, followed by Play Rough or Water Pulse into the late game. Azumarill’s Unite ability is Belly Bash.

Azumarill’s specialty is on 1v1; its critical strike is one of the best in the game; it will be an easy kill if an enemy is isolated. Given that, Azumarill doesn’t really bring that much on the battlefield, especially in team fights; due to its lack of crowd control skills, paired with its slow movements, this Pokémon suffers. When using this Pokémon, it is best to practice picking-off lone opponents.

Espeon

SOURCE: Pokémon Unite

On May 16, along with the Balance Patch Update, another of Eevee’s evolutions Espeon, joined the Pokémon Unite roster. With its Psychic powers, Espeon is ready to bring its skills to the battlefield. Like Sylveon, Espeon is a range Attacker specializing in dealing significant amounts of damage to enemies. Espeon can easily demonstrate the power of mind over matter with some impressive psychic moves. At the beginning of the game, Eevee, has the Anticipation skill (passive) and can learn Swift or Growl. At the mid-game, when turned into Espeon, its passive ability will change and will become Magic Bounce; it can also learn Psyshock or Stored Power. In the late game, it can choose between Psybeam and Future Sight. Espeon Unite ability is called Psychic Solare.

Espeon is an excellent team fighter; its skills revolve around big crowd control and immobilizing the enemies to gain an advantage. Espeon is also a very agile Pokémon, meaning it would be hard for the enemies to catch it. Espeon can also slow down the opponent’s movement speed and renders it incapacitated. As of now, Espeon belongs in the S-tier of powerful Pokémons; however, it still has some weaknesses, one of which is its unite ability Psychic Solare. While it is a good spell to immobilize enemies, Espeon can’t really do anything during the abilities duration. Psybeam also requires some practice to land, especially for speedsters like Gengar or Absol. Given that, Espeon still remains one of the best Pokémons in the game.
